DAN SLATER
FLAT ROCK, AL: Dan Willard Slater, 81, died September 18, 2021 at Highlands Hospital Scottsboro, Alabama. He was a veteran of the United States Army, life-long golfer, retired from TVA, attended East Brow Baptist Church, a loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather known as “Papa Dan” and “Papaw”.
He is preceded in death by parents, Hugh and LaVina Slater; brothers Bill Slater, Bryce Slater, Fred Slater and Doug Slater and sister Betty Slater Hill.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Elaine Carroll Slater; daughters Angie (Pierre) Pilote and Danette (Terry) Higdon. daughters by marriage Angie (David) Bain, Anita (Stan) Skipper, son by marriage AJ Buckner; grandchildren Kathryn (Larry) Dismukes, Amanda (Kevin) Kranz, Corey (Sarah) Skipper, Zac (Lexi) Barringer, Michael Skipper, Chloe and AnnaLynn Buckner and Austin Higdon. great-grandchildren Thomas and Caroline Kranz and Wyatt and James Skipper; sisters Dora (Leonard) Atkins, Clara Scholfield; brother John (Dale) Slater; sisters-in-law Doris and Mary Slater; many nieces and nephews, friends and fellow golfers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM EDT. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
We respectfully request that social distancing, wearing masks, and all CDC measures be followed at the funeral home and cemetery.
