Mr. Larry Gene Moore

Larry Gene Moore, a well-known and respected citizen of New Salem, passed away on October 22, 2022. He was 73 years old. Larry had been battling Parkinson's disease for some time and passed peacefully. The funeral service will be held at the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 25th at 11:00 AM ET, and he will be laid to rest at Hawkins Cemetery in New Salem.

Larry was admired and cherished as a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather, and a kind friend to all who knew him. He radiated compassion towards others throughout his life, touched thousands throughout the community with his contagious kindness. His professional life was marked by kindness, integrity, compassion and devotion to his calling.

Larry served as Sole Commissioner of Dade County from 1980 to 1992. During this period, he helped establish several crucial public projects such as the Dade County Justice Building, Senior Citizen Center, Veterans' Park the Dade County Four Fields which have now been named after him. He served on various boards over the years and was also an active member of the Dade County Optimist Club.

For more than twenty-five years, Larry remained committed to serving his community as the proud owner of Moore Funeral Home. Larry was also an active member of Trenton First Baptist Church for most parts of his life where he lived by faith and worshipped along side those that shared his values.

Larry devoted time to championing youth sports in Dade County for many years. He fondly remembered coaching young teams such as the Redskins little league baseball team. Larry loved antique cars and enjoyed traveling to car shows seeking unique treasures.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Sherman C. and Gladys McBryar Moore; brothers Sherman C. Jr., and Ronald Dean (Ronnie) Moore who had all passed before him.

Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Mary West Moore, and his children Wendy Kernea and her children Trey, Meghan, and Caitlyn; Misty Morris (Don) and their children Gavin (Alivia) Tierce and Olivia Tierce, Ben (Myranna) Morris; Larry II (Janet) and their children Taylor (Brittany) Mai, Colby (Kassaundra) Mai, and Brady Mai. Larry also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. His legacy has influenced many in the community in a positive manner.
