Dorothy Faye Buffington, age 90, of Trenton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Dorothy was born on April 26, 1935, in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Irby and Elva Malcomb Oliver. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Kermit Lee Buffington, Sr. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage and raised four children.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Dorothy’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She cherished every gathering and loved traveling, visiting yard sales, and searching for antiques. Dorothy was a faithful member of Rising Fawn Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her love of life, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Diane (Ted) Rumley, Marsha (Dale) Allen, and Sharron Frady; her son, Kermit (Amy) Buffington, Jr.; sisters, Rachel Veal and Carol Hawthorne; grandchildren, Ted (Desiree) Rumley, Dusty (Jacey) Rumley, Michael (Hillary) Garner, Chris (Meagan) Allen, Avery Sexton, Andria (Russ) Powers, Cory Durham, and Andrew Buffington; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kermit Buffington, Sr.; parents, Irby and Elva Oliver; sisters, Doris Fuller and Wilda Posey; brothers, Willard and Levon Oliver; great-granddaughters, Sydney, Allie, and Hattie Rae Rumley; and son-in-law, Michael Frady.
A funeral service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home, Trenton, GA, with Pastor Mike King officiating. She will be laid to rest at Trenton Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Tapestry Hospice, Megan Bradford, and special caregiver Bethany Haswell for the compassion and care shown to Dorothy.
Dorothy was dearly loved and will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
