Ella Ruth (Swaim) Long, age 99, of Flat Rock Alabama, passed away on September 10, 2024. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Long Whitley, son-in-law, Calvin T. Whitley, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton D. Long, parents, J. Ernest and Margaret Hays Swaim of Scottsboro, Alabama, and sister, Edna Grace Swaim of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Ella Ruth was a registered nurse, having trained at Newell Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania General Hospital in Philadelphia. Most of her nursing career was spent at Peet Clinic in Flat Rock, working for her special friend, Dr. Ruth Harris Peet.
She was a long-time, faithful member of Sand Mountain United Methodist Church, having served in many church offices, and was still active at the time of her death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Reverend H. Wayne Cook, Reverend Larry Williams, and Reverend Cathy Hill officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday from noon until the service hour.
