Listen to Obituary

Linda Faye Pennington McBryar, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. She passed away peacefully at her home in Higdon, Alabama, surrounded by the love of her family.

Faye’s life was defined by her deep faith and her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a faithful member of Higdon Free Holiness Church for 50 years. On April 17, 1977, Faye experienced her Holy Ghost birthday, a moment that shaped her walk with the Lord and guided her life from that day forward. Her faith was not just something she spoke of—it was something she lived daily through love, service, and prayer. Her family takes great comfort in knowing where her journey has led her.

To her family, Faye was far more than a name. She was Mother, Mom, Momma, Gran-money, Gan-money, Grandmother, Grams, Grammy, and Me-Mom—titles spoken with affection and earned through a lifetime of care, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Her family truly meant the world to her, and she loved each one dearly. She was the steady center of her family, the one everyone gathered around, leaned on, and learned from.

Faye was born on August 27, 1943, in Long Island, Alabama, to the late Elmer Dee and Della Hill Pennington. She married Joseph “J.C.” McBryar, and together they raised three daughters. Their home was filled with hard work, togetherness, and love, values that Faye carried with her throughout her life and instilled in her children and grandchildren.

Above all, Faye will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her gentle spirit, strength, and faith shaped her family and will continue to live on through them.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Darrell) Whitley of Davenport, Florida; Crystal (Jeff) Freeman of Davenport, Florida; and Deanna Shrader of Chattanooga, Tennessee; granddaughters, Tyree (Scott) Middlebrooks, Makisha (James) Cordell, Makala Freeman, Maleia (Blake) Sealey, April (Mike) Purdom, and Becky (Alex) Holcomb; 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren on the way.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “J.C.” McBryar; her daughter, Tabatha Lynn McBryar; and her sisters, Ruth Blevins, Jean Mayo, Elma Clayton, Wanda Higdon, Martha McAllister, and Judy Jones.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Faye’s life will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM ET at Higdon Free Holiness Church with Brother Edwin Spurgeon and Brother Jody Gray officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Park following the service.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM ET and again on Monday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.

Faye’s legacy is one of faith, family, and love—a legacy that will continue through the many lives she touched and the generations she guided.
