Frank Douglas Hixon, age 79, of the New Salem Community of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

A memorial service celebrating Frank’s remarkable life will be held at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, September 11, 2026, in the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home in Trenton, Georgia. Brother Jim Hixon will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the service.

Frank was born to the late Frank and Winoa Hixon. A man with a deep appreciation for the natural world, Frank was an avid environmentalist who found great enjoyment in being outdoors. Whether bird watching, admiring butterflies, or simply taking in the beauty around him, he had a genuine love and respect for nature. On his life list, he observed 487 different species of birds which is a testament of patience and dedication that Frank gave to his hobbies.

Frank was also endlessly curious and especially gifted when it came to electronics. A longtime Ham Radio operator, he enjoyed working on just about anything electronic and was always interested in understanding how things worked. Music was another important part of his life, and he loved playing the guitar.

Above all, Frank was a man of faith and family. For more than 14 years, he faithfully attended New Salem Baptist Church, where he enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He treasured time spent reading his Bible and held a sincere love for his Lord throughout his life. Frank also loved his family deeply, and among his greatest blessings was the life he shared with his beloved wife, Gloria, throughout their 60 years of marriage.

Frank is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria Hixon; siblings, Jim (Joan) Hixon and Joyce (David) Debter; nieces, Nikki (Jeff) Bush, Sarah Hind (Michael), Deandra (Frank) Heald, Leandra (Fred) Salyers, and Jaime (Matt) Hampton; nephews, David (Amy) Debter and Jake (Brandy) Hixon; along with numerous extended family members, loved ones, and friends who will cherish his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made in Frank’s memory to the New Salem Baptist Church Youth Fund, 541 Scenic Highway, Rising Fawn, Georgia 30738.

Frank will be remembered for his inquisitive mind, his appreciation for God’s creation, his quiet faith, and most especially, the love and devotion he gave to his family throughout a life well lived.
