Helen Nelson

Helen Marie Nelson, age 94, of Bryant, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 24, 2026.

A funeral service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Brother Doyle Chamblee will officiate the service, and Helen will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Helen was born on May 27, 1932, to the late Luther and Flora Bell Smith. Throughout her remarkable 94 years, her life was centered around her family and the people she loved. Affectionately known as “Granny,” Helen had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for. She was loved by all who knew her.

A wonderful cook, Helen found great joy in preparing meals and feeding those gathered around her table. For her, food was another way of showing love. She possessed a kind and generous heart and would do anything she could to help someone in need. Her greatest happiness came from caring for her family and spending time with those closest to her.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Eldridge Nelson; her son, Eddy Nelson; her grandsons, Jason Nelson, David Castleberry, and Jody Nelson; and several brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elaine (Eddie) Sneed, Shirley (Leslie) Castleberry, Donna Marie Nelson, Brodie White, and Robert Nelson; grandchildren, Aundrea (Andy) Trotman, Kimberly Nelson, Robbie Nelson, Amy Sneed, Sherry Sneed, Madison King, Keith Pearson, and Brenden Fine; several great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Helen’s loving spirit, generous heart, and devotion to her family will be remembered by everyone blessed to have known her.
