Jasper Lloyd “J.L.” Smith, of Bryant, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM ET in the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home, with Brother Steve Townson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM ET, and again on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home.

J.L.’s life on earth came to a close, and his eternal life in Heaven began immediately. He was a faithful Christian man who loved his family, his church, and his many friends. J.L. retired from the automobile industry after 48 years of dedicated service in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Over the past two years, he fought a courageous battle with cancer, facing each day with strength and unwavering faith. As Scripture reminds us, he fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Frieda McBryar Smith; daughter, Farrah Smith McCoy (Don McFall); daughter-in-law, Alyce Smith; brother, Steve D. Smith (Pam); grandchildren, Chloe Smith (Nick Feltman), John McCoy, Keira Turner (Luke), Jaiden Carruth, and Jake Lawhorne; and great-grandchildren, Zalen and Nolan Feltman.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Eric Brandon Smith and Jarrett Landon Smith; his parents, Virgil and Pat Smith; his sister, Charlotte Lane (Ralph); and his nephew, Chris Lane.

In honoring J.L.’s life and faith, the family finds comfort in the promise of Scripture: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles…” — Isaiah 40:31. May this promise serve as a reminder of his renewed strength and eternal peace.
