Joan Shrader

Clara Joan Shrader, age 79, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Joan was born on October 31, 1946, in the Big Wood community of Trenton, Georgia, to Mutt Rice and the late Clara B. Davis Rice. Just hours after graduating from Davis High School in 1964, she married the love of her life, Larry Shrader. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love and commitment for 62 years, until his passing on May 29, 2026.

Joan’s greatest joy was her family, especially her beloved husband. She treasured the time they shared and enjoyed traveling to the beach with her family. She also loved listening to country music.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and sister whose love and kindness will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Glenn (Connie) Shrader and Barry (Becky) Shrader; father, Mutt Rice; sisters, Debra (Lamar) McBryar and Sherry (Bobby) McFarland; grandchildren, Dustin (Caitlyn) Shrader, Brandon Shrader, and Mandy Shrader; great-grandchildren, Karlee Shrader and Paisley Evans; and many extended family members and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, James Larry Shrader; mother, Clara B. Davis Rice; and sister, Candice Rice Smith.

A funeral service honoring and celebrating Joan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home, with Brother Kelly Meeks officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Bryant, Alabama.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home.
