Born on December 27, 1943 to the late James and Tibb Cloud Whitley, Fay would assume many roles as a caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to all she encountered. It was on July 7, 1960 when she received the Holy Ghost at Higdon Holiness Church; her faith would play a continuing and integral role in her life. In 1973, Fay would marry the love of her life, James Roy Gentry, and would later embark on the endearing journey of motherhood. She enjoyed traveling with her family and spending time with both family and friends. She could oftentimes be found singing at local nursing homes and bringing joy to the residents there. Additionally, throughout her life, Fay loved attending church when she was able and cherished being surrounded by her church family who brought her so much love and companionship.
Fay's memory will live on in her daughter, Rita Gentry and her brothers, Bithal (Darlene) Whitley and Oron (Jessie Mae) Whitley. She is also survived by numerous extended family and a host of friends who will miss her presence dearly.
In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Roy Gentry; her son, Benjamin Roy Gentry; and her brother, John Willard Whitley.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and nurses at NHC Healthcare - Fort Oglethorpe, CHI Memorial Hospital, and Gentle Hands Personal Home Care Service for their compassionate care of Fay during her last days.
