Mark Austin Payne III, age 63, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
Born on August 31, 1962, in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Mark was the son of Rose Lofty Payne and the late Mark Austin Payne II. A lifelong resident of the area, Mark faithfully served the citizens of Marion County for more than 35 years as Director of Solid Waste Disposal. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and commitment to the community he proudly called home.
Mark was a fourth-generation blacksmith who took great pride in carrying on his family's tradition. He enjoyed working with his hands and was always building, repairing, or creating something new. Whether he was forging handcrafted knives, collecting and trading firearms, or spending a quiet day fishing, Mark appreciated the simple things in life and the satisfaction that came from hard work and craftsmanship.
A man of faith, Mark was a faithful member of Aldhouse Church of Christ in Bridgeport, Alabama, where he valued the fellowship of his church family.
More than anything, Mark loved his family and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. He also valued the many friendships he built throughout his life. Mark will be remembered for his loyalty, generous spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Payne; his mother, Rose Payne; his daughter, Kassidy (Paul) Weese; his son, Chase Brown; his grandchildren, Brasden Brown, Lorelai Brown, Jude Weese, and Josie Weese; along with numerous extended family members and many dear friends, including his special friend and brother Ty "Boogie" Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Austin Payne II.
The family would like to thank the staff at Signature Healthcare of South Pittsburg and Hospice of Chattanooga for the compassionate care provided to Mark over the past several months.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aldhouse Church of Christ, PO Box 890, Bridgeport, Alabama 35740.
