Martha "Dena" Newt

Martha "Dena" Newt, age 75, of Trenton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 25, 2025. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Dena’s life was defined by her deep faith and unwavering devotion to her family. 

She was a Sunday school teacher, a bible study leader and a member of White Oak Baptist church for 30 years. Her faith was not just something she spoke of, it was something she lived daily. Through love, service and prayer. Her family takes great comfort in knowing she is in God’s loving presence. To her family Dena was more than just a name, she was a wife, mother, a Granny, Aunt Dena and a sister in Christ. Titles that were spoken with affection and earned through a lifetime of care, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Her family truly meant the world to her and she loved each one dearly. She was the steady center of her family, the one that everyone gathered around, leaned on and learned from.

Dena was born on September 6, 1950, in Warren County, Tennessee to the late Maxine and Jim Dodd. She married the love of her life for 59 years, Jimmy C. Newt and together they raised three daughters. Their home was filled with hard work, togetherness and love, values that Dena carried with her throughout her life and instilled in her children and grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband Jimmy C. Newt; daughters, Angela (Gary) Bone of Trenton, Georgia, Amanda (Cecil) Hunt, of Trenton, Georgia and April (Jim) Gibson of Hixson, Tennessee; grandbabies, Jacob (Lauren) Hunt, Emily (Eric) Abernathy, Cheyenne (Terry) Carlton, Noah (Xandria) Bone, and Logan Gibson.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Dena's life will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 12:00 PM EST in The Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Gary Bone officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Shellsford Cemetery in McMinnville, Tennessee. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM EST and on Wednesday from 11:00 AM EST until the service hour.
