Mary Wilks

Mary Ellen Wilks, age 83, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home in Trenton, Georgia. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until the service hour.

Mary was born on July 26, 1942, in Jackson County, Alabama, to the late Sam and Ollie Kay Veal. She was known for her feisty spirit and unwavering loyalty to her family. Mary never hesitated to speak her mind and carried a strength of character that defined her life. She worked for many years cleaning homes on Lookout Mountain, where she built lasting relationships and earned the respect of those she served.

An avid reader, Mary always had a book close by, often surrounded by stacks of well-loved stories. Above all, she cherished her family. She lovingly raised her two grandsons, providing them with guidance, strength, and a foundation of love that they will carry with them always.

Mary is survived by her grandsons, Sam Fowler and Heath (Hope) Fowler; her sister, Bernice Veal; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Eugene Fowler, Sr.; her sisters, Jessie Brown, Inez Castro, Ruby Butler, and Mary Wilks; and her brothers, James Raley, Billy Veal, and James Veal.
