Michael Sherman Davis, affectionately known as "Mike," passed away peacefully at his home in Rising Fawn, Georgia, on September 26, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 76 years old.
Mike retired from the United States Army as a decorated soldier after dedicating twenty-two years to military service. Following his military career, he worked as a corrections officer at Walker State Prison. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life, resonating in the love he held for his family.
Mike cherished every moment spent with his wife, Doris Davis, and their children: Mike Davis, Sherri (Mark) Dean, and Chris (Kristie) Davis. He was especially proud of his grandchildren—Dakota Dean, Hunter (Katie) Dean, Noah Dean, Phoenix Davis, Bailey Davis, and Delaynee Davis—and his great-grandchild Jackson Dean. The laughter and warmth of family gatherings were the highlights of his life.
He enjoyed sports and was a big supporter of the Tennessee Vols. In quieter moments, he could be found indulging his interest in history through reading, or staying informed while watching Fox News.
In addition to his immediate family, Mike is survived by his brother, George "Mac" Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maude Davis, as well as his sisters, Joan Anderson and Terry Beasley.
A funeral service honoring Mike's life will take place at 9:30 AM on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until the service hour.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hearth Hospice and the staff at the Chattanooga VA Clinic. They would also like to give a special thank you to Crystal Holt.
Michael Sherman Davis will be missed dearly, but his legacy of love, service, and devotion to family will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
