Nelda Jo Gray

Nelda Jo (Higdon) Gray was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on May 9, 2026 surrounded by her family. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Matthew Logan officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM ET. 

Born on August 2, 1942, in Flat Rock, AL to Robert A. and Beatrice Higdon. Nelda leaves behind a lifetime of memories that her loved ones will cherish. Nelda was a supervisor at Shaw Industries for many years and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Nelda (Granny Gray) loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids; they always brought a smile to her face. She was loved by all, and her family will miss her greatly. 

Nelda is survived by sons, Roger (Joy) Cagle and Harold "Hal" D. Gray, Jr.; daughters-in-law, Alice Cagle and Kimberly Cagle; her brother, Robert D. "Bobby" (Carol) Higdon; grandchildren, Amanda (Casey) Dobbins, Allison "Nikki" (Chris) Casperson, Blakely (Kevin Coffey) Campbell, Zachary (Allison) Turner, Hali Gray, and Terry (Hannah) Waldron; and great-grandchildren, Katie and Cagle Dobbins and Teagan, Paisley, Jaylee, and Jack Casperson. 

In addition to her parents, Nelda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Dewitt Gray; son, Rodney Cagle; daughters, Drenda Lynn Turner and Debbie Campbell; and her grandson, Jason Cagle.
