Listen to Obituary

Reba Ann Chapman Dutton, age 78, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by the immense love of her family at her home in Kimball, Tennessee. Her mind and spirit are now free after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia—a fight she met with the same stubborn strength and grace that defined her entire life.

A funeral service celebrating Reba’s remarkable life will be held at 1:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home in Trenton, Georgia. Pastor Carol Moore and Pastor Darrell Nunley will officiate. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Bryant Cemetery in Bryant, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 4:00–8:00 PM ET, and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Born a coal miner’s daughter—just like Loretta Lynn liked to sing about—in Soddy, Tennessee, Reba was the oldest daughter of John Robert Chapman and Imogene Bone (Seabolt). From the start, she was colorful in every way: her bright smile, her big personality, her quick wit, and her fierce love for her family. She was full of life, laughter, and hugs (and yes, she was a kisser—nobody escaped without one).

Reba had a memory like a steel trap and kept notes on everything. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special event—her calendar was more reliable than any smartphone. Her grandchildren could always count on her to show up, cheer loud, and brag even louder. Whether it was a graduation, wedding, or Christmas Eve, she was there—camera in hand, smile on her face, and likely a pie or two in the car.

Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. Reba loved her Lord deeply and lived out her faith through kindness, generosity, and an open heart that welcomed everyone. The legacy of love, laughter, and faith she leaves behind is one her family will carry proudly for generations to come.

She was one of a kind—unforgettable, irreplaceable, and dearly loved. The space she leaves behind is as big as her heart, but the love she gave continues to fill the lives of everyone who was blessed enough to know her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Pastor Carol Woodby Moore, Donna Woodby Hardin, and Ray (Dawn) Stevens; her grandchildren, Nathaniel Moore, Bradley (Cheryl) Moore, Gregory Moore, Anthony Moore, Patrick Moore, Wesley (Madison) Hardin, and Chasity and Lillian Stevens; her great-grandchildren, Liberty, Elijah, Kaytlynn, Isaiah, Hosanna, Noah, Amethyst, Maddox, and Braelyn; her siblings, Hershel (Sybil) Chapman, Homer Chapman, Martha Thompson, and Mary Harrison; several cousins and other extended loved ones—and a whole host of friends who adored her.

In addition to her parents, Reba was preceded in death by her siblings, Bobby Chapman, Velma Chapman, William Chapman, and Sharon Hooper; along with her first and last husbands, Charles Don Woodby and Terry Dutton—both of whom surely greeted her in Heaven with a smile (and probably a little healthy competition over who got the first hug).

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Reba’s dear friend and neighbor, Donna Alexander, as well as to the caring staff of Hospice of Chattanooga (Jasper)—Brother Ronnie Case, Ida Green, Ann Roberts, and Angela Winne—for their kindness, compassion, and devotion in Reba’s final days.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing Reba’s finally free—her laugh echoing in heaven, her notes perfectly organized, and her lipstick still leaving marks on angels’ cheeks.
