Reta Marie Massey

Reta Marie Massey, age 69, of Rising Fawn, Georgia on Lookout Mountain, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Reta was born on August 20, 1956, to the late Ralph and Ruth Lusk Mathews. One of ten siblings, she grew up surrounded by family, a blessing that shaped her life and values. Family was the true highlight of Reta’s life, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to those she loved. She was a caring and selfless mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who opened her heart to everyone she met.

A woman of deep faith, Reta lived her life grounded in her love for the Lord. Her strong Christian beliefs guided her actions and brought her comfort throughout her life. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Reta was preceded in death by her husband, David Lewis Massey Sr., and her sister, Regina Gail Mathews.

She is survived by her children, Reta Gail (Jason) Derryberry, Rebecca Jean Massey, and David Lewis Massey Jr.; her sisters, Roxane Kilgore, Renae Powell, Ronda Higdon, and Rosalie Baldwin; her brothers, Rusty, Ralph Jr., Randall, and Ritchie Mathews; her grandchildren, Jed Derryberry, Tristan Derryberry, Adrian Sneed, John Paul Sneed, Sammy Cox, Jamie Cox, and Tanner Massey; her great-grandchildren, Preslyn and Levi; and numerous extended family members and close friends.

A graveside service to honor Reta’s life will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Ascalon Cemetery with Brother Jim Blaylock officiating.
