Richard Joel Rothman, 85, passed away on March 21, 2026, in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Born on October 3, 1940, Richard was known for his curiosity, artistic talent, and adventurous spirit.

A graduate of University City High School in St. Louis, Missouri, Richard furthered his education at Washington University and the University of Chicago. He went on to build a distinguished career as an architect and city planner, founding Richard Rothman & Associates in 1978. His professional legacy includes numerous contributions to urban development and community planning. He was awarded a fellowship with both the American Institute of Architects and the American Institute of Certified Planners, a rare and notable honor.

Richard’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. He was a gifted artist who deeply enjoyed drawing, sculpture, and painting. His love of travel complemented his artistic pursuits, providing him with endless inspiration. It was during a trip through the Middle East and Europe in 1961 that he met his beloved wife of 63 years, Micheline.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Micheline Rothman; his sons, Stephen Rothman and Eric Rothman; his daughter-in-law, Jenny Rothman; his grandchildren, Anabel Rumbaugh, Rachel Rothman, Quinton Rothman, and Charles Nelson III; and his great-grandchildren, Eli Rumbaugh and Gemma Louise Bell.

A celebration of life to honor Richard’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust in recognition of his commitment to land conservation and the environment.

Richard’s legacy of creativity, exploration, and dedication to community will be remembered by all who knew him
