Shirley K. Stephens passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living & Memory Care of Columbia, Tennessee, at the age of eighty-five. She was born on August 18, 1939 in Jackson County, Alabama. Her parents were the late A.M. & Valeria (Thrasher) Keel, who preceded her in death.
Shirley worked in the Dade County School System as a teacher's aide for over 12 years and retired from the Bank of Dade in 2009 after 26 years of service. She was active in several community organizations. Shirley was a member of the ABWA and served as treasurer of the local branch of the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Hooker Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Roy M. Stephens, on April 27, 2021; sister Doris Virginia Keel; infant granddaughter Kaitialyn Renea Keel; sister-in-law Gertha Stephens; brothers-in-law Carl Cross, Bernard Keith, Andy Newby; niece Connie Cross; nephew Cal Riddle.
She is survived by two sons, Milton (Julie) Stephens, Lynnville, Tennessee and Phillip Keel, Trenton, Georgia; sister Jean (Doug) Wheeler, Trenton, Georgia; brother Kenny (Linda) Keel, Trenton, Georgia; grandchildren, Thomas (Melissa) Stephens, Lynnville, Tennessee, Shane (Anna) Keel, Ringgold, Georgia, Kristen Wells, Cody Keel, and Tyler Keel, all of Trenton, Georgia; great-grandchildren Gracyn & Bryar Wells, Camden, Adley & Asher Keel, uncles Rayford Thrasher, Huntsville, Alabama, Sam Keel, Ringgold, Georgia, C.B. (Janice) Keel, Chattanooga, Tennessee; nieces April Wheeler, Serena Keel, Fallon Keel; nephews Win (Anita) Keith, Mike (Darlene) Keith & Mark Cross; sisters-in-law Bertha Cross, Betty Keith & Kathleen Newby; several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with ministers Johnny Holeman, Mike Keith, and Milton Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Tuesday, beginning at noon until the hour of service.
