William “Bill” York, 79, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, passed away on Friday morning, October 23, 2026.
Bill was born on May 3, 1947, in his childhood home on Lookout Mountain, to the late Arvle and Virginia York. On April 2, 1971, he married the love of his life, Beulah-Ann Wootten York. Together, they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on March 5, 2023.
Throughout his life, Bill was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand. He worked at Rock City and Fairyland Golf Course while also operating York Landscaping, providing landscaping and handyman services to families throughout the Lookout Mountain community. He also worked as a forklift operator at Arcade Printing Company in Chattanooga. Following his retirement from Arcade, Bill continued serving his neighbors through his landscaping business until his final retirement in December 2025.
Bill was a founding member of West Cove Free Holiness Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and he received the Holy Ghost in February 1988 at Griffin Free Holiness Church, just three months after his son, Greg.
Bill found his greatest joys in life's simple pleasures. He loved sitting on his front porch with a cup of coffee and his faithful dog, Zoe, by his side. He also enjoyed tending to his yard and spending time fishing with his son and grandsons. Above all, Bill treasured his family, his friends, and the community he called home. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. As his family fondly recalls, you could ask a hundred people about Bill and never hear a bad word spoken about him.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beulah-Ann York; and his siblings, Orvle “Jr.,” Raymond, Delma Lee, Harold, Lloyd, and Darvin.
He is survived by his son, Greg York, and daughter-in-law, Stacey; grandsons, Greyson York (Malorie) and Garrett York; great-grandchildren, Jack and Scarlett; siblings, Charles (Brenda), Freda (Larry), and Patricia “Trishie”; and his dear friends of 50 years, Woody and Joann Wooten.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, October 26, 2026, in the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home in Trenton, Georgia, with Brother Aaron Wooten and Brother Darrell Townsen officiating. Bill will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Beulah-Ann, at Lake Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 25, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and on Monday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
Greyson York, Garrett York, Tim Mills, Terry York, Tim Voiles, and Dale Wooten will serve as pallbearers.
